FAQ's

What is the FitELITE Freak 5k?

The FitELITE Freak 5k is the ultimate race for adrenaline seeking junkies of all abilities. This 5k race covers several different types of rugged terrain as well as multiple planned obstacles throughout the event. Each obstacle is designed to test and challenge every racer.

What do I get?

  3. FitELITE Freak 5k finisher dogtag
  4. FitELITE Freak 5k race bib

What should I bring?

  1. Your photo ID (required at packet pick-up)
  2. A change of clothes
  3. GUTS!
  4. An initialed, signed, and dated copy of the participant waiver. This is optional, but will greatly help save some time in line! Click here to download.
  5. Extra money to purchase food, beverages, clothing, and other gear

What should I wear?

There’s no way around it – you'll be filthy when you finish. Wear clothes or a costume you don’t mind getting dirty. We highly recommend good, solid running shoes, too. There will be an area to rinse off after the race, but we'd also recommend a change of clothes and/or a towel or garbage bag to sit on for the drive home!

I want to wear a crazy costume/decorate my body/etc. Is that allowed?

Feel free to wear whatever kind or type of costume you would like. The crazier, the better. As long as your costume or running shoes do not harm other participants, you are good to go.

I am not in good shape. Can I do this?

Finishing the FitELITE Freak 5k is more about mental toughness than being in good or great shape. This type of race is designed to challenge each and every entrant. Competitors of all shapes, sizes, and abilities will test their toughness through a number of hefty, wet, challenging, and muddy obstacles!

Is the FitELITE Freak 5k safe?

There is certainly risk involved in FitELITE Freak 5k (as in any race), but we take every precaution possible to get you to the finish line safely. There will be paramedics and an ambulance on site in case of an emergency. You enter the FitELITE Freak 5k at your own risk.

What age divisions are there?

The FitELITE Freak 5k has the following divisions for men and women:
14-19
20-25
26-30
31-35
36-40
41-50
50-60
61+

Please note every wave will consist of people from every age division. Racers will be placed in waves of up to 100 people. Wave placement is determined by registration. ("First come first served"). (We reserve the right to combine age groups based on number of registrants).

When and where is the post-race party?

- Beer will be served from 30 minutes after the start of the first wave until three hours after the start of the final wave.
-Music will be playing once the gates open (10:00 am) before the start of the first wave until three hours after the start of the final wave.
-Upon completion of the FitELITE Freak 5k race and after party, there will also be a gathering held at Fox Run.

How does each obstacle work? Will any of the obstacles be to difficult or dangerous?

What you see is what you get until race day. Descriptions of each obstacle will be posted prior to race day (www.fiteliteonline.com). Each of the obstacles is designed to provide a challenging barrier from beginning to finish. Although they may be quite challenging, they will be feasible for all entrants.

I cannot swim. Can I participate in FitELITE Freak 5k?

Absolutely. You aren't required to swim in any part of the race. Any body of water you'll be traveling through is only two to four feet deep.

What if it rains?

Better yet! Plan ahead. The FitELITE Freak 5k is designed to put each competitor through the most grueling obstacle race they have ever experienced! Designed to bring every competitor to their knees, full sweat and mud. The FitELITE Freak 5k will test each participant's determination to finish such a CRAZY race!

Will there be water along the way?

Yes. There will be one water station at the half-way point on the course to keep you hydrated on your journey to the finish!

How long is the course?

The FitELITE Freak is a 5k (3.1 miles) race with various obstacles to be conquered throughout.

Can we compete with teams?

Unfortunately, there is no team division. You are welcome to compete with friends or family to help you through the obstacles.

How do I train for the FitELITE Freak 5k?

  1. Day 1: Run, run and run some more. Just when you feel like you can't run any longer...start running again.
  2. Day 2: Dig a hole. Throw the mud to the side. Dump water on the mud. Then do 100 burpees...in the mud.
  3. Day 3: Find a sand dune. Run up it. Then do it backwards.
  4. Day 4: Challenge yourself to a FitELITE CrossFit workout!
  5. Day 5: Replace a traditional jump for a box jump... then replace that with a jump over fire.

Do not shower or shave for weeks. Practice the art of covering your body in mud.

Repeat until October 16th, 2010.

What is chip timing?

A chip is a miniature transponder in a specially designed housing, marked with a unique identification number corresponding to each FitELITE Freak 5k participant. When participants pass the electronic equipment at the start and finish, their time is automatically recorded.
